…on a night of rain Frodo smelled a sweet fragrance on the air and heard the sound of singing that came over the water. And then it seemed to him that as in his dream in the house of Bombadil, the grey rain-curtain turned all to silver glass and was rolled back, and he beheld white shores and beyond them a fair green country under a swift sunrise.

I understand what you're saying, rusmeister. *sigh* It just really bothered me, because Tolkien really was pretty much the most respectful to women of most writers in that time-- in that respect, I actually liked him better than Lewis, because in comparing Galadriel to Tinidril and Eowyn to Jane and so on, the only book that really satisfied me in that respect was Till We Have Faces. And with all the wonderfully realistic women that Tolkien put in his books, why did the directors feel the need to add to that? Really, what they did took more away than it added.

(asking at my own peril, here-- what's wrong with women in combat? If you don't want to say here or pm me, it's fine... just wondering.)
