Into the Wardrobe

Has anyone here read A Severe Mercy? I am reading it currently, and it is proving to be good. I was a bit dissappointed when I saw that it is a love story, but it features 18 letters written by Jack Lewis, and I figured any book that features some sort of writing by C.S. Lewis must be good.

I've read A Severe Mercy and though I'm not a fan of love stories (particularly such sappy ones-gick) I enjoyed it because of Vanauken's excellent writing. And I love his sonnet about the legend of the girl who wiped Jesus' face.

The letters from Lewis in the book are extremely insightful and I wish I had the money to buy the new two-volume set of his letters.

I read A Severe Mercy a while back and remember it as being moving and strange. The climax of the book, I thought, was the letter that Lewis wrote Vanauken in which he uses the expression "severe mercy." Lewis condemns the Shining Barrier as something very misguided. It was almost scary reading it.
