Rat! he found breath to whisper, shaking. Are you afraid?
Afraid? murmured the Rat, his eyes shining with unutterable love.
Afraid! Of Him? O, never, never! And yet -- and yet -- O, Mole, I am afraid!
Then the two animals, crouching to the earth, bowed their heads and did worship.

I am always amused at these accusations . Why not just celebrate Prevervesity or eat our children or be here at all? Fear of a moral code is the first door, my dears . After that what do you do ? This is ground zero minus one .

Lewis used the exisence of the moral code as an argument for God. I believe that it makes a very weak argument for God. I've found that it's not an apologetic that nonChristians have found to be particularly persuasive.

Although, oddly, I have heard several pagans say that Mere Christianity is one of their favorite Lewis books (and it amazes me how many pagans read Lewis).

Thanks Wolf,
I think you may be right that it is sometimes not persuasive. My question is, why is it so weak? The response, I believe... without a lot of backup (on the part of a non-believer) to be a clearly weaker response. Lewis provides examples that all of us experience and explains a phenomenon that atheism can't adequately explain. How would you alternatively explain the presence of a moral code in a universe where everything appears randomly?

Yes, of course Lewis is right, and you are too. But Lewis' purpose as an apologist was to answer a pagan's question, "Why should I consider Christianity." As an evangelist, I'm very interested in that question and the argument to morality doesn't seem to be very effective. I would love to have aan argument that proves the existence of God - it would be so much easier than what I have to do now.

Take my voice and let me sing always only for my King.
Take my lips, and let them be filled with messages from thee.
Take my hands and let them move at the impulse of thy love.
Take my feet and let them be swift and beautiful for thee.
