Welcome, Riana!

That's a difficult question, and impossible to answer definitively on this side of the grave. It's difficult even to describe time as we know it - many great thinkers have tried to unravel the mystery of time, without much success.

I'm of the opinion that if there is music in heaven, there must be time there also.

Lewis had some thoughts on the nature of time in heaven. He suggested that time in heaven might be more like a solid object, rather than the line of time that we appear to travel in this life. I'm trying to find where he wrote this, but haven't been able to find it yet. (It may be in Mere Christianity, but my copy is in my teenage daughter's room, where I dare not enter.)

I personally would doubt that there is time in Heaven. For me Heaven is being in the eternal present with God who is outside of time (time being one of God's creations). An interesting discussion of this issue can be found in Book 11 of The Confessions of St. Augustine. Lewis also touches on this in The Screwtape Letters in various places.

When the trumpet of the Lord shall sound and time shall be no more,
And the morning breaks eternal bright and fair,
When the Saints of Earth shall gather over on the other side,
When the roll is called up yonder I'll be there.

Thank you all for your responses! I recently found out that my church, the Missouri Synod Lutheran church has listed in their "Confessional Lutheran Dogmatics book on Eschatoloty ( by John Stephenson) that it is accepted and believed that there is time in Heaven (p. 52) and that New Earth is a real planet made of real matter (p130). For many years I had no idea that was the stand of the church of which I was a part of (and many of the other parishoners that belong to this denomination still do not know it). What do other churches believe? I am especially interested in finding out what the Roman Catholic Church believes. Does anyone know who can quote a source?

I think that Time does exist in Heaven, but it is not nearly so important as Progression-- that is, learning and growing in spirituality to become closer to God. I also think that God must have some way of surpassing the limits of time-- time-travel, if you will-- so that time, for him, is not linear, but rather spherical, so that He can see and reach any specific point at any given moment.

Time in Heaven would seem most illogical.
