Ditto that, Jo...kinda like holding a mirror up to ones face and honestly being startled by what you see there, aye?

Yes. The funny thing is that althought Great Divorce also contains profound truths, I didn't like the 'vehicle' it used to put them across nearly as well. Screwtape was an inspired and original idea though.

Yes, to see so clearly that which goes on all around you, that you have been trained to not see...makes you think.

I had not heard of "The Great Divorce" until I read your thread on it. I'm not sure I am terribly inclined to read it. What vehicle did he use and what disturbed you about it?

One major and obvious difference is that Screwtape is funny, and Divorce mostly isn't.

Then they came for the Iraqis and I protested because I was an American. Then they came for the Muslims and I spoke out because I was a Christian, Then they came for the poor and I spoke out because I was rich. By the time they came for me, I had all the support a man could ask for.”

Well, I don't mind, but then I'm one of those 'Tolerance' folks. ;) "Let every man go to heaven in his own way," in the words of Frederick the Great.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of books do you like?
