Im in the middle of it at the moment and i am really enjoying it. I love the sarcastic tone that he uses to describe many of the characters philosophies!!!

Rat! he found breath to whisper, shaking. Are you afraid?
Afraid? murmured the Rat, his eyes shining with unutterable love.
Afraid! Of Him? O, never, never! And yet -- and yet -- O, Mole, I am afraid!
Then the two animals, crouching to the earth, bowed their heads and did worship.

I'm almost finished! I've enjoyed this one this time around. In general, I find that there are serious works that I'm not quite ready for yet (even at my age) that I return to later only to get intense pleasure out of them. Same goes for "orthodoxy" by Chesterton. 2 years ago I wasn't ready and ho-hummed my way through a couple of chapters. Now I know a lot more about Lewis, so mostly get what he's talking about. Some things remain obscure, but it's a good description of that "rare path" to Christianity via intellect.

It's definitely a work you should be ready for. This, his first Christian work, should be one of the last read, imho.

Finished it yesterday. I liked it a lot, but i slowed down a bit towards the end. I think it needs a second read later on to understand it more. Still everything i read by Lewis never fails to astound me!!

As an interpretation it's fine (I can't really criticize it). It's interesting, too, the choice of the color brown and not black.

On the other hand, the girl in Lewis's story seems to serve no other purpose than temporary lust. He used other females later for the romantic temptations.

I wonder if it (ie "brown-ness") isn't simply an indication of "over-ripeness", or the beginning of spoiling, as one might observe of, say, avacado dip, or fruit past its prime turning brown -- still possibly edible, but potentially unhealthy and even poisonous if left for too long.

--Stanley
…on a night of rain Frodo smelled a sweet fragrance on the air and heard the sound of singing that came over the water. And then it seemed to him that as in his dream in the house of Bombadil, the grey rain-curtain turned all to silver glass and was rolled back, and he beheld white shores and beyond them a fair green country under a swift sunrise.

That's is quite possible too. You know honestly, I am not very fond of the idea of trying to cram it into meaning one specific thing. Rather, it seems like you get more out of it by brainstorming like this and looking at it from different angles, seeing the different ways the story reflects life serendipitously.

Oh, and I just looked at the "black girls" again, and it seems that rather than it referring to "lust", it is rather referring to "pornography". I think you could still say Brown girls are a type for "sexual desire" -- which is often Lustful -- and Black girls are "pornography", which is a "copy" of sexual desire.
