Lewis tells the story as if it were a dream that he had. He refers to himself and his own experiences explicitly; for example, in chapter nine he writes: "I tried to tell how a certain frosty afternoon at Leatherhead Station when I first bought a copy of Phantastes (being then about sixteen years old) had been to me what the first sight of Beatrice had been to Dante: Here begins the New Life." This event is also described in the autobiographical Suprised by Joy.
"What are you laughing at?"
"At myself. My little puny self," said Phillipa.

I may be totally wrong here but I have read "The Great Divorce" many times and I do not remember the storyteller (I presume that is who you mean by the Main Character) having a name. If I am incorrect, would you please give me a reference in the book.
