Rat! he found breath to whisper, shaking. Are you afraid?
Afraid? murmured the Rat, his eyes shining with unutterable love.
Afraid! Of Him? O, never, never! And yet -- and yet -- O, Mole, I am afraid!
Then the two animals, crouching to the earth, bowed their heads and did worship.

Thanks, that does help a lot...

The reason I was asking was, I have a good friend who belongs to a group of people that feel Christ saves you from death and then through your works, you are allowed to work your way into God's presence (I'm generalizing, but that's the gist of it). I've been trying to explain the belief that faith (which God provides, as you mentioned, by grace) in Christ is what saves you and that works are the fruit of a saving faith in Christ. It just so happens that my friend adores C.S. Lewis (especially The Screwtape Letters) - so that's why I was looking for some quotes from Lewis ( he tends to phrase things better than I do :) )

Thanks again...
Philip
