…on a night of rain Frodo smelled a sweet fragrance on the air and heard the sound of singing that came over the water. And then it seemed to him that as in his dream in the house of Bombadil, the grey rain-curtain turned all to silver glass and was rolled back, and he beheld white shores and beyond them a fair green country under a swift sunrise.

They drank so much tea cos there wasn't much coffee about in England in those days - you ask someone who was alive in Europe during WW2 about the lack of coffee - they had all sorts of awful substitutes. To get their caffeine fix for the day took lots of tea, as there is much less caffeine in tea. Actually during the war, tea was also rationed too.... And of course boiled water (to make tea) was safer than tap water, and there was no bottled water.
