My daughter was 13 when she read it for the first time. She tells me that she didn't "get" all of it at the time, but that there's nothing inappropriate in the books, and adds that Out of the Silent Planet is the most accessible.

I was about to say something similar although I do not have a 13 year old to consult. I consider Out of the Silent Planet to be a fairly straightforward read and should be easy for most 13 year olds. However, it has to be said that some adults on these forums have said from time to time that they have found it hard going!

Perelandra is a bit deep in places and I would have thought that perhaps That Hideous Strength might be a bit difficult for a child. However as Karen says there is nothing "unsuitable" in the trilogy.
