I tried looking inside this collection of Lewis' books, including Mere Christianity, Screwtape Letters, Miracles, The Great Divorce, The Problem of Pain, A Grief Observed, and The Abolition of Man.
I couldn't find your quote, but maybe you'll have better luck.
"My brain and this world don't fit each other, and there's an end of it!" - G.K. Chesterton

Hello again,
I think I've found it. I typed 'reserved' into the Search and it came up with;
"...that the whole mass of the people should now move forward and occupy for themselves those heights which were once reserved only for the sages?" It's on p 234, so it must be in Miracles. I'm now settling down to re-read Miracles. It'll be interesting to see if the context in which the quote was made is as I remember it, and whether I can make use of it in the way I hope to.
I'm most grateful to you. Thank you.
Andrew

Rat! he found breath to whisper, shaking. Are you afraid?
Afraid? murmured the Rat, his eyes shining with unutterable love.
Afraid! Of Him? O, never, never! And yet -- and yet -- O, Mole, I am afraid!
Then the two animals, crouching to the earth, bowed their heads and did worship.
