Lost job over Christianity

Lost job over Christianity

Postby Hank » February 21st, 2006, 1:20 am

Did Lewis suffer setbacks or discrimination in his job at Oxford or in his professional reputations because of his writing on Christianity, or because he wrote popular books on Christianity?

I heard a speaker say that Lewis lost his job because of his Christian writing. However I have not been able to find any reference that substantiates this.

I don't believe he had lost his job at Oxford due to his beliefs. He taught many classes and his students never knew he was Christian.

He didn't lose a job that he already had, but he was passed over for professorships, perhaps because his colleagues didn't approve of the popular nature of his books on Christianity. Various biographers discuss this.

"At myself. My little puny self," said Phillipa.

Rat! he found breath to whisper, shaking. Are you afraid?
Afraid? murmured the Rat, his eyes shining with unutterable love.
Afraid! Of Him? O, never, never! And yet -- and yet -- O, Mole, I am afraid!
Then the two animals, crouching to the earth, bowed their heads and did worship.
