HEY!

HEY!

Postby Tony » 24 Feb 2006, 02:06

Sorry. I'm looking for a Lewis quote but I can't find it on the internet anyway. I need your help!

I believe it starts out with something like this:
"God being love, desires to give. And in giving, creates what he does not need..."

Then it ends with something like "...seeing in the dawn of creation a need for the crucifixion."

I'm so confused! Where is this from and what does he actually say?
"The Church is the natural home of the Human Spirit."

Sounds like Screwtape to me. Hang on and I'll look it up.
No, Sorry. I can't find anything.

There is this passage from the chapter on Charity in 'The Four Loves.'

God, who needs nothing, loves into existence wholly superfluous creatures in order that He may love and perfect them. He creates the universe, already foreseeing - or should we say 'seeing'? there are no tenses in God - the buzzing cloud of flies about the cross ..................
If I may dare the biological image, God is a 'host' who deliberately creates His own parasites; causes us to be that we may exploit and 'take advantage of' Him.

Is that it?

No, it's definitely NOT Screwtape. That's all the help I can give you.
People flock in, nevertheless, in search of answers to those questions only librarians are considered to be able to answer, such as "Is this the laundry?" "How do you spell surreptitious?" and, on a regular basis, "Do you have a book I remember reading once? It had a red cover and it turned out they were twins." ~Terry Pratchett, about libraries
And we shall reach zero at some point. :)

Something like that yes! I remember hearing an audio file of this, though Lewis worded it quite differently. Thanks a lot.

So does anyone know what page this quote can be found in The Four Loves?

That would completely depend on which edition you have. In mine, which is the first American hardcover ed., it's p. 176.
