Arch and Small Piggybottom

Postby Arch Piggybottom » 25 Mar 2006, 21:31

I am taking a C.S. Lewis class and I seem to remember some time ago talking about Warren Lewis being the Arch Piggybottom, and Jack being the Small Piggybottom. However, I cannot find this information anywhere on the net and it is starting to bug me! I was hoping that some of you may have heard this before and if so, could you point me to a particular website about it? Thanks much!

Welcome, Arch!

Probably isn't any website that says it, it is a rather obscure bit of trivia. Plus, you have the nicknames slightly wrong. In Warnie's diaries, for a period in the 1920s, he refers to himself as APB, for 'Archpigibotian', and his brother as SPB, which he never defines, thought 'Smallpigibotian' is probably a fair guess (but, still only a guess). The two in letters to each other refered to their youthful attitude towards life as 'pigiebotianism'. If you can find a copy, you can get the full details in Brothers and Friends: The Diaries of Major Warren Hamilton Lewis.

Hope this helps.

Selah,
Sven
Rat! he found breath to whisper, shaking. Are you afraid?
Afraid? murmured the Rat, his eyes shining with unutterable love.
Afraid! Of Him? O, never, never! And yet -- and yet -- O, Mole, I am afraid!
Then the two animals, crouching to the earth, bowed their heads and did worship.

Much appriciated Sven! Now that you have reminded me of the correct spelling, i looked it up online. However, it appears that according to most people, it is spelled Archpigibotham. On the other hand, they have no references. In any case, thank you for the response! I have been trying to remember what it was for the last couple of hours.

hiya Archie and welcome! It's great to see someone in here who's not asking for help with their homework on the Last Battle :D

These nicknames are mentioned in Sayer's biography of Lewis.
