when did cs lewis fall ill?

He was first seriously ill in 1961, I believe.
"In Sept. 1961 he wrote to Green: 'I am awaiting an operation on my prostate; but as this trouble upset my kidneys and my heart, these have to be set right before the surgeon can get to work. Meanwhile I am on a no-protein diet..., sleep in a chair, and have to stay on the ground floor.' Visiting him later in the month Green found him 'looking very ill, and he got tired soon'; and in October he was spending short spells in a nursing home, for blood transfusions. 'I've just had a blood transfusion and am feeling very drowsy,' he concluded the letter to Kathleen Raine...'Dracula must have led a horrid life.' "
