Why does any writer write anything? Because they are compelled to do so by that indescribable something inside that has to come out and find a voice. Because they don't know what the heck the world is and have to write it down for their thoughts to get in order. Because God puts the words inside of them. Who knows?
And How does a writer write? Pen and ink and paper, or a typewriter, or a word processor, or dictation...

However I doubt very much that Lewis wrote with a word processor ;)

Lewis didn't even like typewriters. He wrote everything in longhand.
And, of course, the question is not "how does he write?" but "how did he write?" Lewis has been dead for over 40 years.
