Reference to "inns" alng life's journey

Someone referenced a Lewis quote to me that talked about life's journey being rocky, hilly and difficult, but that we got to stop at inns along the way. We couldn't stay at the inns, but they were pleasant stops during our journey. Can anyone give me a source for this quote? I'd like to read more about it. Thanks, Bill

Rat! he found breath to whisper, shaking. Are you afraid?
Afraid? murmured the Rat, his eyes shining with unutterable love.
Afraid! Of Him? O, never, never! And yet -- and yet -- O, Mole, I am afraid!
Then the two animals, crouching to the earth, bowed their heads and did worship.
