I have read somewhere, that on each author there's copyright for a certain time period since he had departed...

I have forgotten the year, on which will be Lewis's works for free,
like e.g. G.K.Chesterton's: http://www.cse.dmu.ac.uk/~mward/gkc/books/index.html

does anyone know?
please remind me

It depends where you live. If you are in a country that is a part of the Berne Convention on international copyright, the period of copyright is at least fifty years after the author's death. Under some circumstances, copyright can be extended beyond 50 years; I don't know if the company that owns the copyright to Lewis' work has applied for copyright extension.

Since Lewis died in 1963, the earliest that his work would pass into the public domain is 2013.
"What are you laughing at?"
"At myself. My little puny self," said Phillipa.

In England, copyright on written works and music lasts for 70 years after the composer's/author's death.

Copyright on photographs lasts for 50 years after they have been taken (I think).

Copyright on typeset editions lasts 25 years.

In the US, the books will enter the public domain 95 years after their publication. So, for example, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe will enter the public domain January 1st 2046.

In Europe, Lewis' books will enter the public domain 70 years after his death (January 1st, 2034)
