Lewis Books in Russian

Lewis Books in Russian

Postby GarySpFc » 27 Mar 2008, 22:01

I am married to a Russian lady, and one day I discovered she was reading Mere Christianity in Russian. She loves the book. Can you tell me if any of Lewis other books have been translated into Russian, and where I might obtain them?

Welcome, Gary!

Here is a link for you to look at that should get you started: Inklings Focus Russian page. While this site is primarily for translations of the Chronicles of Narnia, there are several of Lewis' other works listed as well.

Hope this helps.

Selah,
Sven
Rat! he found breath to whisper, shaking. Are you afraid?
Afraid? murmured the Rat, his eyes shining with unutterable love.
Afraid! Of Him? O, never, never! And yet -- and yet -- O, Mole, I am afraid!
Then the two animals, crouching to the earth, bowed their heads and did worship.

Sven, how can I order these? I would love to get ahold of them for my young friend, Yura.

A tedious task, I'm afraid. I'd copy the ISBN of the one you're interested in, Google it looking for the English results, and see if any booksellers pop up. Also, try the ISBN at alibris, abebooks, amazon, etc.

I use www.bookfinder.com to search for books pretty often. It'll search all those sites and more. If you just have an ISBN, put that in either search field and the site will search by that.

I will give it a try, I wonder, is this something that I could ask my local librarian for help with?

Lewis is hard to translate, though. I didn't realize how very English the Chronicles of Narnia were until I saw a Russian version of them. Before going to all that trouble, I would suggest looking for the texts online (copyright isn't as strictly enforced when it comes to works in Russian) and seeing if your wife likes them.
