Hello All
I've been lurking for a while now and this seems like a very interesting group. I've been reading some of the other intros so hopefully I won't make too much of a mess of things. There doesn't seem to be a set format to them, so here goes.
I'm Pam and I'm in Alabama (you probably figured that one out from my screen name.) I am Baptist born and raised. Politically I am very conservative (probably what some people would call "one of those God and guns conservatives" to tell the truth) I'm 40, married with no kids but 2 cats.
Oh, and I despise smilies.
Lewis' Narnia series was among my favorite books growing up. Of course, like most people, I discovered the Wardrobe first and came to the others later with much delight. His books stand out for me as special because, having read them as a kid I can come back to them as an adult with equal pleasure although I find that the meaning has deepened or become richer. There are not many of my childhood favorites that stand up to an adult reading so well.
Recently I have lost both of my grandparents, both gone within less than a year with no preceding ill health or infirmity. It was a shock that sent me groping back toward the faith they had taught me as a little girl in church. That in turn has sent me, as is my nature, into a world of books seeking direction and meaning. More correctly I was looking for an anchor, having lost both of mine. Lewis' words, particularly Mere Christianity, have been some of the most sensible and useful I've read. And so I wound up here.
Some things strike me that I haven't seen here. I've seen very few remarks about the poetry (Spirits in Bondage) which I find beautiful. Does the verse remind anyone else of Pink Floyd? Has anyone read The Velveteen Rabbit lately? The theme of a love so great that it can "make you real" reminds me very much of some of the ideas in MC.
I'm going on too long. I respond better than I recite. Questions would be merciful.
