A 14 year old with a gun might well be keen to shoot at anything that moves. Many adults understand this urge to blaze away. They remember it all too well. But any sensible adult (especially those who've been shot) would counsel the boy to resist those urges and learn safe ways of handling guns, lest he hurts someone badly.

Why is it that the only sin which seems to bring out any lively discussion is sexual in nature? Lust is not even on the top of most lists in the Bible. I suspect that it is easier to debate a sin which is "exciting" than to face the more pernicious, everyday sins which continually erode our relationships with God and neighbor. How about facing that granddaddy and root off all sin, pride.

I can't see why pride is a sin.

…on a night of rain Frodo smelled a sweet fragrance on the air and heard the sound of singing that came over the water. And then it seemed to him that as in his dream in the house of Bombadil, the grey rain-curtain turned all to silver glass and was rolled back, and he beheld white shores and beyond them a fair green country under a swift sunrise.
