Cursing (swear words)

Cursing (swear words)

Postby Simmer Jr » October 27th, 2005, 2:48 am

To the many Minds,

I have pondered for quite some time now on what a "Curse Word" truly is and the effects it has on society, family, or even the individual.

I pondered on where it derives from.

I pondered on what it is "scientifically" so to speak. (ex. a WORD is: a sound or combination of sounds forming a meaningful element of speach. So if a word does this to speach what effect does a "curse word" have)

I pondered on what it is spiritually.

and last... I pondered on why it is wrong, or the effect it has to our world being that it is a sin.

After much pondering I can say that I have formed a somewhat tangable opinion on the whole matter.

This whole thing may seem silly, but I needed to understand its nature and harm in order to successfully rid it from my life.

Anyhow I wanted to hear others thoughts on the matter, or challenge others to consider this if they so desired. :D :D

Thanks God Bless

P.S.- I must note that I should of (by fatih) gave up cursing the minute I knew it was wrong. This would have been true obedience. We should listen to God even if we dont understand why. So dont take my example on how I approached this particular sin. Forgive me, for its just the way things happened.

People flock in, nevertheless, in search of answers to those questions only librarians are considered to be able to answer, such as "Is this the laundry?" "How do you spell surreptitious?" and, on a regular basis, "Do you have a book I remember reading once? It had a red cover and it turned out they were twins." ~Terry Pratchett, about libraries
And we shall reach zero at some point. :)

Perhaps this may sound simplistic, but I ask myself if I would use a particular word if Christ were present, which for me he always is. But beyond that, profanity or obscenity simply reveal the limited vocabulary and/or intelligence of the user. Surely there are more effective ways to make our opinions known.

…on a night of rain Frodo smelled a sweet fragrance on the air and heard the sound of singing that came over the water. And then it seemed to him that as in his dream in the house of Bombadil, the grey rain-curtain turned all to silver glass and was rolled back, and he beheld white shores and beyond them a fair green country under a swift sunrise.
