I also made the decision to change churches, actually change my denomination. It was a very difficult struggle for me, but it had become painfully clear that if I had stayed in my old church, I would not have been able to do the things which God was calling me to do. Confronted with a decision to choose between obedience to God or to denominational rules, I realized that I had allowed my allegiance to a human community to come between myself and my Creator. I still have many friends and relatives in my former denomination, and they have all been supportive of my decision.
My advice to you, Amy, is to spend a great deal of time in prayer about this. Then if it is clear that you must leave, do not rush to make a new commitment to a church, but visit a large variety and wait to see what God wants you to do. From my own experience I can tell you that when you find the right one, you will know.
