Hmm, I'm no expert, but I do know that most Greek Catholics and Greek Orthodox consider the King James Version to be the best English translation of the entire Bible. This is because it relies heavily on the Byzantine manuscripts (which were copied by the Greek Christians), as well as the Septuagint, the authoritative Greek translation of the Old Testament, which the early Church used almost exclusively.

Personally, when it comes to the New Testament, I really like The Orthodox New Testament (scroll down):

I like this one because it pays extremely close attention to Greek verb tense.

David--

A couple of years ago, I asked much the same questions in this forum, and got much useful information and advice. I also did some research on the internet and found several helpful sites there. Here are four of them:

http://ebible.org/bible/biblefaq.htm#translation

http://www.religioustolerance.org/chr_vers2.htm

http://www.bible.org/page.asp?page_id=663

http://www.cin.org/users/james/files/biblever.htm

I finally wound up adding the NEB to the KJV I already had. Since then I've been consulting the NET frequently online. I like its scholarliness and ease of use.

Take my voice and let me sing always only for my King.
Take my lips, and let them be filled with messages from thee.
Take my hands and let them move at the impulse of thy love.
Take my feet and let them be swift and beautiful for thee.

Out of curiosity, has anyone here read or skimmed through any of these new teen versions out on the market? I must admit I am hesitant to even look for fear of finding something along the lines of "...and Jesus came to his disciples and said 'Dudes! I asked you guys to wait up for me!'"
