The tax collectors are just doing their job - wouldn't you be better off trying to love those who instigate the taxes in the first place.

I often wonder why people are so against taxation. What do they think the country runs on - thin air?

Obviously I'm against fat cat salaries but SOME taxation is necessary to run the country.

Well yes I was being a bit facetious about the tax collectors ... they do seem to have been horribly vilified in Jesus's day. I suppose because they were collecting taxes for a government that was seen as a conquerer and an oppressor.

“First they came for Abdul Rahman and I spoke out because I was a Muslim. Then they came for the Palestinians and I raised hell because I was a Jew. Then they came for the Iraqis and I protested because I was an American. Then they came for the Muslims and I spoke out because I was a Christian, Then they came for the poor and I spoke out because I was rich. By the time they came for me, I had all the support a man could ask for.”

This may sound hokey, but if I can't love someone I start praying for them --not praying that God will make them more lovable to me, or more like me! ;) but I pray for their well being and happiness.

Once I was in love with someone who didn't love me and I prayed consistently for the one he did love. It was hard! But eventually, it bore fruit, and I quite like this once hated other, and certainly am more positive about their relationship...
