I haven't really got the faintest idea what i am talking about though :). I grasped enough to realise that it was a potentially fascinating subject but that's all.

I don't remember Clarke's book very well, but there's a lot of science fiction out there where the idea of mingling human thought processes and computers is explored. Anything by William Gibson, for example.
