I must confess to very little knowledge of the Pope. I am facinated by the whole "pomp and circumstance" surrounding his life. Unfortunately, most of my knowledge of the pope comes from reading Dan' Brown's Angels and Demons (a better book than DaVinci Code, but only slightly). I do like the hats!

There have been many people I've known who consider themselves Catholic who I consider brothers and sisters in Christ. Then, there are others whom I would not. The same can be said for every church, including my own.

There are some parts of Catholic doctrine that I disagree with strongly, and A# is right in that there have been abuses by the Catholic church in Central and South America recently. But the history of Christianity is peppered with incidents of abuse by clergy and church authorities. The actions of a few should not condemn the whole.
