I think I should point out that when someone from A#'s position says someone has a black soul, they do so from an understanding that everyone's soul is black in its natural state, including their own.
However, if I have one gripe about the Catholic church (I don't have many, really), it would be that they spend too much time telling people that their souls are black, rather than neglecting that particular - er - duty.
And lastly, if people are being abused, or encouraged to abuse themselves, either physically or spiritually, then someone needs to speak out against it. Which is what A# has done. If in her zeal she has generalized overmuch and reduced a rich and varied tradition down to a single aspect, well, sometimes it requires someone with that kind of focused anger to make the rest of us notice what's going on. Considering how surprising this sort of outburt is from A#, the experience behind it must be deep and intense indeed. That didn't come from nowhere.
