Lewis would certainly have called it a blessing. To paraphrase, if I'm longing for things that can't be satisfied in this world, then it's obvious that I'm made for another world. The knowledge of our "other worldliness" is certainly a blessing for those who acknowledge their longing. Lewis used the word sehnsucht as a synonym for "joy".
