Science is built of laws, which are built on assumptions (basic trustworthiness of the senses, logic governs every corner of the universe, "laws" will continue to hold, and things will continue to exist in a way by which we can make inductive observations, or apply them, in the first place). But assumptions ARE personal, though only the last two examples are judgments. The first two examples are axioms, or indemonstrable a-priori conditions; but the last two, derived from experience, have no ground in necessity and, without recourse to a rational metaphysic, are therefore, rationally speaking, judgments in the wildest sense imaginable.
The man who lives in contact with what he believes to be a living Church is a man always expecting to meet Plato and Shakespeare tomorrow at breakfast. He is always expecting to see some truth that he has never seen before. --Chesterton
