Has anyone followed the discussion about Archbishop Rowans speech about the special position of muslims living in a western society regarding the use of the Sharia under certain circumstances in accordance with western law?

Is where we discussed this. Can't get a URL link to work for some reason
Having read the speech and the discussion I think we need to be clear:
1. the issue of incorporating Sharia Law was not raised in the speech at all
2. Under Sharia law you cannot lend money at interest therefore Muslim banks do not do this
3. This is a great idea - one many followers of Christ could go along with (see Christian economist Michael Schluter on this)
4.therefore Gordon Brown slightly modified British law to allow Muslim banks to function
5. Rowan gave this as an example - a journalist said so are you saying British law will have to be modified to fit in with Sharia law
6. Rowan said yes - because after all he had just pointed out that this had already been done by Gordon Browne
7. Everybody went ape :censored: and said Rowan was advocating stoning

Here is something by Schluter on this: I did talk to a lay reader recently who had written an article explaining why as a Christian he was using an Islamic bank.Prabhu Guptara has an interesting paper in which he points out that Christianity, Judaism, Islam and Hinduism all at one time condemned lending at interest.
