origin of Bag End

Postby A#minor » August 2nd, 2005, 3:31 am

I just found this out.
Tolkien's Aunt Jane live at a farm at Dromston in Worcestershire. The farm was at the end of a lane that led no further, and the local people used sometimes to refer to it as "Bag End".

Neat. Do you know of any other places where Tolkien got names or anything?

A volume that you might enjoy, which deals with places that inspired Tolkien's imagination, is

There and Back Again: In the Footsteps of J.R.R. Tolkien's England, by Mathew Lyons.
