Magic rings

I was wondering if there's any link between Tolkien's magic rings and Lewis's rings in MN. I wonder did Tolkien steal the idea from Lewis or was it the other way around? Who wrote which first?
Are there any other authors who promenantly used the idea of magic rings?

Air of winter,
I read the story, and it was so enjoyable. Thanks so much for the link.
It reminded me of Silmarillion; or, I suppose I should say, Silmarillion reminds me of the Volsung story.
The part with the she-wolf's tongue and the honey is soooooo nasty though. ugh. :p
