It doesn't change the basic applicability of the citation, but (especially since I just discussed this in my adult Sunday School class) I can't help but mention that Romans 8:28 may also be translated from the Greek texts as follows:

"...in everything God works for good with those who love him, who are called according to his purpose."

The verse may be rendered in English with either "God" or "all things" as the subject of the sentence (i.e., what is doing the "working"). The choice of renderings comes down to issues of context and textual criticism. This is a good, almost classic, example of the challenges of translation.

Sorry for the comment. I couldn't resist.

Regards!

Thanks for the translation. I always love hearing what the original Greek says.

Melkor's name means, "He who arises in might," and by the Elves is renamed MORGOTH., the Dark enemy.

You'd think that "Melkor" would mean something cruel and horrible, like "He who fights in darkness" or " He who walks in the blood of his enemy" or "He who has bad breath" or "He who never takes out the trash". yes, cruel and horrible.
I guess that's why the elves re-named him.

Would it be O.K. to take the quizzes "open-book"? I ask, because while I've been reading Hobbit and TLotR since the 1960s, I only read The Silmarillion for the first time four years ago, and this present is only my third complete reading.

Yeah, even I couldn't take the quiz. I got about two of the questions on my own. The rest of the time I was flipping through trying to find the answers! ;) But it did make me pay more attention to what I was reading and try to remember it more. :read: Keep plugging away at it!
