Well said, Stanley. Perhaps it is a little harsh to accuse Tolkien (that's mostly in jest anyway); but my feelings are that I'm emotionally attached to a certain name and the connections and memories that name brings with it, so that when I find that wasn't someone's name after all... I feel betrayed. As though someone lied to me.

And I'm not an expert, but I believe that the modern Hebrew spoken in Israel today is as different from the ancient Hebrew in which the Bible was written as modern English is different from the Old English spoken by Beowulf. It has to be translated, no one actually speaks it; it's a dead language, poor thing.
