Even stranger ! :D

Anyway I am at Weathertop right now and Frodo is just about to be attacked. I had some thoughts about the Bree chapter last night .. mostly small things. For one thing, I can't help thinking it was a bit reprehensible of Gandalf to entrust his letter to Butterbur when he knew there was a chance that the landlord might forget. For another, I am not sure why Butterbur paid for the lost horses! If I were him I would have charged the hobbits double for the damage to his property (not to mention his crockery) and sent them packing without either horses or compensation ;).

…on a night of rain Frodo smelled a sweet fragrance on the air and heard the sound of singing that came over the water. And then it seemed to him that as in his dream in the house of Bombadil, the grey rain-curtain turned all to silver glass and was rolled back, and he beheld white shores and beyond them a fair green country under a swift sunrise.

Au contraire, it would have been much better if I had been!

As it is I am mid way through the Council of Elrond.
