LOTR quote game

Postby jo » 24 Mar 2006, 17:43

Am about to make a hypocrite of myself by starting a game HERE but anyway ;)

This is the LOTR quote game. The idea is, someone - me to start - gives a line from the books and someone else has to guess where it's from. It can be speech or description or anything. When the quote's correct context has been guessed, the winner then posts their own entry.

So:

"Mine is the choice of Luthien and as she so have I chosen, both the sweet and the bitter"
"I saw it begin,” said the Lord Digory. “I did not think I would live to see it die"

Arwen, obviously. Do I have to state page numbers or give the chapter or something? Do I have to say where she is or to whom she is speaking?
I don't know. What are the rules here?

Well, here's another:

"Good water runs down in streams to the Great River, nice water in the lands we are going to."

Just context .. no need to give a page reference. Just enough to show that you do indeed know where it comes from :)

Gollum, to Frodo and Sam, in Ithilien (The Two Towers/Book Four, Chapter IV, "Of Herbs and Stewed Rabbit").

Here's mine:

"'Where are you?' he cried again, both angry and afraid.
'Here!' said a voice, deep and cold, that seemed to come out of the ground. 'I am waiting for you!'"

If it's what I think it is, then your quote is slightly off. It should be: "The young Sun shone like fire on the red metal of their new and greedy swords."
Tom Bombadil telling stories to the hobbits.

Here's a new one:
"Well, no one troubled us...and we came along slowly, and kept no watch. We thought we'd left all trouble behind us."

Pippin to Butterbur on the return to the Shire.

"It seems to me good enough for a birthday party."
"What are you laughing at?"
"At myself. My little puny self," said Phillipa.

Really, jo, I must insist on exact quotes.
"And you are lucky to be here, too, after all the absurd things you have done since you left home."

Gandalf to Frodo when he wakes up in Rivendell. Chapter- Many Meetings

"The others remained long by the river-side. For some time they had been silent, moving restlessly about...

Memory yeah but I will try to bring my book up tomorrow. Sorry .. I was being slightly irritable I think; I tend to be slap dash about things but I understand that other people aren't.

I know most of the journey from Bag End to Bree by heart, though as you can see words get misplaced :)
