The long-awaited two volume J. R. R. Tolkien Companion and Guide (Chronology; Reader's Guide), by Christina Scull and Wayne Hammond, recently released to much acclaim, comes to a grand total of over two thousand pages. Along with their The Lord of the Rings: A Reader's Companion, published last year, this is expected to be a standard resource in Tolkien studies.
It's not exactly cheap. But Amazon had it for 30% savings; I was planning to get it...and it's on the way to me. This and the third volume of Lewis letters will put me on a short leash in terms of book purchases for a while.
Anyone else considering it?
