Some readers might like to know that Mary Rose, a seldom-performed play by J. M. Barrie (Peter Pan), has been revived.

Tolkien saw the play and also read it, and was moved and disturbed by it; you can read about that in Verlyn Flieger's A Question of Time.

Thanks for posting that! Looks interesting. I wonder why Tolkien was disturbed by it though.

Ah, thank you for the further explanation. I can see how Tolkien would be interested and somewhat peeved maybe, especially since his elves are so unlike the typical little butterfly-sized fairies.

ooh, intriguing. I love J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan - which is so much deeper, naturally, than the Disney version. So I'm thrilled to hear one of his other plays is getting some attention. It sounds good. And also nice to discover that there is a connection between Barrie and Tolkien. Though maybe not surprising.

Barrie wrote some weird stuff. I bought a couple of old editions of Sentimental Tommy and Little White Bird last year. I couldn't even read through them, they were so disjointed and full of obscure allusions to who-knows-what.
