Children of Hurin?

I asked this about Vol III of Lewis' Collected Letters a few months ago. but I though that I'd inquire here (feeling sure that I couldn't be the only one in these parts): is there any one else who has Tolkien's The Children of Hurin on pre-order? I should think that this would be almost a duty for the likes of us -- the first complete Tolkien title since The Silmarillion in 1977. Admittedly, we owe much, once again, to Christopher T., editor, for getting his father's material into publishable form.

This thread may, if folks wish, serve also as a place to share initial impressions on publication (scheduled for 18 April).

Yours, in expectation.

I think I'll indulge myself this time, and order it (the cheaper one). :pleased: Isn't the deluxe edition beautiful though? *sigh* Wish I could afford it.

I almost bought this today, but it's $26, minus the 40% Coupon is $15.60 and tax, minus ten bucks on a gift card is still $5.60 and some, and that's half my bank account, and payday isn't till Wednesday after the coupon expires. I guess I'll just have to finish the Lays of Beleriand first...

I bought it! But I could only read the Introduction and look at the pretty pictures because I have soooo much stuff to do right now. But I'm looking forward to it.

JLG, will you be joining us for the reading group? Sounds like we could use someone with your insight!

Anyone else have two of these in their book?

I have one at the beginning of chapter XIII, and again in the middle of chapter XVI. Seems like a printers mistake. Why would there be the same illustration twice? Ought I to send it back?

The second one should be Glaurung laying waste to the land. Keep it: there's probably a very few more out there with that erratum, and you can call it a collector's item thirty years from now.

[Antiques Roadshow]
Host: "And you say it's a Lost Dragon Hurin?"
A#Minor: "Yes--and it's Húrin, not Hurin. Get it right."
Host: "Right. And there's no painting of Goering at p.224 in this one."
A#Minor: "That's Glaurung, you Nibin-noeg!"
Host: "Whatever. I'll give you three grand for it."
A#Minor: "Not likely."
