Yay, a George MacDonald forum! I look forward to Goblin up what people have to say about the 'master', once the North Wind of discussion starts blowing and the great truths contained in his writings are opened up with the Golden Key of exegesis.

Rat! he found breath to whisper, shaking. Are you afraid?
Afraid? murmured the Rat, his eyes shining with unutterable love.
Afraid! Of Him? O, never, never! And yet -- and yet -- O, Mole, I am afraid!
Then the two animals, crouching to the earth, bowed their heads and did worship.

yes indeed, but nobody seems to be visiting the shiny new MacDonald forum! (except myself, Sven and the spirit of C S Lewis but then we three know a good thing when we see it. I can't speak for Sven or Jack's ghost, but i came because of the guided tour, conducted by MacDonald himself. I bet Chesterton and Tolkien don't extend the same courtesy to their guests!)

I want to mention just two MacDonald comments which blessed and impressed me.

From MacDonald's preface to the collected short stories: "The Fantastic Imagination" ... God always means exactly what He says, including myriad implicaions. Man always means more than he intended. (paraphrased)
And from the second entry in Lewis's Anthology: Inexorable Love ... MacDonald's insight into love's integrity, purity and uncompromising standard of perfection. God is love and a consuming fire! (summarized)

Lewis introduced me to MacDonald. And MacDonald has convinced me that he has much to offer the world.

i suppose i could always be obscure on the tolkien forum too, but it's easier with macdonald. Any of his scottish novels would rank as being obscure, while the only 2 tolkien books i've read are pretty mainstream: the lord of the rings and the hobbit.
