Boo-hoo for the old Tolkien Forum

Postby A#minor » July 6th, 2007, 12:40 am

One last hurrah. Our beloved Tolkien forum has at last been winnowed out. We've seen the signs for years. We all knew this was coming. We've fought against the corruption and the tyranny, but all to no avail. Image Our dear Tollers has been relegated to an inferior common position along with other authors. The sacred writings are placed side-by-side with inferior works. No longer do we, the Middle-Earth enthusiasts, enjoy the privacy and privilege of our own little corner in the Wardrobe. We are thrust out in the cold, driven into the crowd to be trampled underfoot! Image No amount of grieving or supplications can right the wrongs or justify the infringement of our freedoms. 'Tis a sad day. A wound that will never fully heal. Image

ImageAh, well. Chin up. We carry on even in the face of adversity and generalized forums.

Farewell to thee, beloved Tolkien Forum! The haven of our posts, the bulwark of our tirades against Peter Jackson, the resting place of every beloved Tolkien thread, the home of each LotR reading group that brightened our very existence! Alas for thee who art no more!

No! Chesterton is the best! We will flood this place with Chesterton posts! (Ouch! Oof! Push! Shove!)
Tradition is the democracy of the dead! (Ouch! [finger in eye])

Wasn't Roald Dahl one of the Inklings, too?

…on a night of rain Frodo smelled a sweet fragrance on the air and heard the sound of singing that came over the water. And then it seemed to him that as in his dream in the house of Bombadil, the grey rain-curtain turned all to silver glass and was rolled back, and he beheld white shores and beyond them a fair green country under a swift sunrise.

It isn't that Pullman isn't an Inkling - it's that he doesn't have an inkling...

(I believe the modern expression is 'clue' rather than 'inkling' - does that mean that today the society would be called 'The Clues'?)
