I have read is various places where C. S. Lewis probably read Ben-Hur in his early adulthood. But I cannot find where he commented on any of the qualities, or otherwise, within the book. Did he ever comment on Ben-Hur? If so, could someone cite what he said here in this thread?

Sorry, nothing in my Lewis reference books, and they're fairly exhaustive. Lewis didn't have much to say about American authors. HW Longfellow and Joy Davidman Lewis are the only ones I can think of, not counting the criticism that both he and Tolkien expressed for everything Disney.
General Wallace's literary and military careers are both impressive.
