Apparently this forum is rather old and unused by now. HOWEVER i feel the need to say something anyway.

Both Tolkien and C.S. Lewis used parallels to Jesus Christ through Gandalf and Aslan, respectively.

If you take into account the qualities of both characters, the likeness is unmistakeable. They both died to save another's life -- Jesus died to save men from their sins so that they could have eternal life. They both rise again and continue to accompany their comrades into battle -- Jesus rose from the dead 3 days laters and returned to his disciples. Both of them rise more powerful, though it is much more obvious with Gandalf. Jesus rose from the dead and became more powerful.

Both men were Christians and both used the characters in their allegorical stories. Once again though, the allegory was much stronger in Lewis' than in Tolkiens.
