Help! Need a good Lewis Biography...

Hello! My grandfather-in-law loves biographies and asked for one for Christmas. I thought it would be neat to give him one about Lewis but, as I am a novice when it comes to non-Narnia books, I have not read any (though I certainly plan to). I know there are lots out there--could someone please advise me? I would very much appreciate it! Thank you!

The only Lewis biography I've read is Surprised by Joy by Lewis himself. I'll be interested to hear what other Wardrobians recommend to you.

Surprised by Joy is wonderful. The reader is drawn right into the thoughts and experiences of Lewis at different times of his life. I enjoyed getting a peak at the education he received and how that shaped his ability to write the books he later wrote.
