CS Lewis Anglican or Catholic?

The man. The myth.

CS Lewis Anglican or Catholic?

Postby Dr.Berns » April 6th, 2005, 12:18 pm

It seemed that quiet a few of lab members is re-reading CS Lewis's Screw Tape letters. It is not clear to me if CS Lewis became Anglican or did he became Catholic?

"What are you laughing at?"
"At myself. My little puny self," said Phillipa.

Lewis described himself as being very middle-of-the road Anglican, neither high (near Roman Catholic) nor low.
His theology was very Biblical (conservative, evangelical).

Although some readers have assumed he followed the same path as his friend Ron Tolkien, whose own faith was a catalyst for Lewis' conversion, he remained an Anglican.

(and now that he is with the Lord, he is just a Christian!)

Carol,
You do realize I was joking, don't you?
(I think you do, that was the way I took your response). Who could be serious about what I said?
The joke stemmed from the funny way we, all, say things, "...until his death."
Plus, what you said about after death none of this matters.
Plus, the poll about what religious course he would take today.
Plus, he believed in purgatory.
Plus, he made light of his time "there."
Plus.....hope I didn't offend.

Rat! he found breath to whisper, shaking. Are you afraid?
Afraid? murmured the Rat, his eyes shining with unutterable love.
Afraid! Of Him? O, never, never! And yet -- and yet -- O, Mole, I am afraid!
Then the two animals, crouching to the earth, bowed their heads and did worship.
