Here's the FAQ information:

Did C. S. Lewis win any awards or honors?
The Last Battle won the Carnegie Award, the highest honor for children's literature in the United Kingdom. Also, Winston Churchill offered Lewis a knighthood, but he turned it down.

This is my recollection, too, 'though I don't have time to look it up. This happened in the early fifties, and Lewis did so because he did not want Christianity to be thought of as bound up with a particular political camp.

Check the Sayer and the Green/Hooper biographies; also Lewis' Letters.

Regards.

"Jill," said Tirian, "you are the bravest and most wood-wise of all my subjects, but also the most malapert and disobedient."
"By the Mane!" he whispered to Eustace. "This girl is a wondrous wood-maid. If she had Dryad's blood in her she could scarce do it better." - The Last Battle

I'm taking it at Moorpark College in Moorpark, CA. Dr. Daurio is a philosophy teacher who has a section in the upcoming book Narnia and Philosophy. She's teaching the philosophy portion of the combine philosophy/english class with an english teacher named Nills Slattum. Last year she taught a similar class about the The Lord of the Rings.
