No, Jack definetly had his faults, being a human and all. I'm not suggesting that he be portrayed as a perfect little angel.
But Wilson seems to relish in the sordid details. Its like printed gossip. And I find that distasteful since gossip is a sin.

The Wilson bio has been seriously and effectively critiqued in terms of its content. I'll have to check out the details again and get back to you for more.

I agree, Jack by Sayer is the single best bio -- and it does present a truly human view of Lewis. However, Wilson's support for a number of his assertions and generalizations is thought to be rather weak. I also think that would find the Sayers book valuable; it's very far from hagiography.

And here, from our own Wardrobe, an article by tha late Kathryn Lindskoog, one of the premier Lewis scholars, offering a detailed, cogent critique of the Wilson bio:

Hope this is helpful.

"Jill," said Tirian, "you are the bravest and most wood-wise of all my subjects, but also the most malapert and disobedient."
"By the Mane!" he whispered to Eustace. "This girl is a wondrous wood-maid. If she had Dryad's blood in her she could scarce do it better." - The Last Battle
