Into the Wardrobe

I heard Mr Gresham speak this week; he said that one aspect of the book (which someone described as "twee" on page one of this thread) was that it was written in an experimental style - it begins with quite an easy reading style, to help younger readers get into it, and chapter by chapter it develops into a maturer style.

He also said that it was written to fill the gap in books about Jack as a person, not as a writer, critic, apologist, etc.
Young Douglas met Jack when he was only eight years old, and within three years Jack and Joy were married. Joy was very ill at the time, but recovered and lived for three more years, dying when Douglas was 14. Jack lived for three years longer. I'm just reading Lentenlands, and finding the special aspects of those last three years of friendship between them. In this book he has given a lot of descriptions of Jack from a personal knowledge.
