…on a night of rain Frodo smelled a sweet fragrance on the air and heard the sound of singing that came over the water. And then it seemed to him that as in his dream in the house of Bombadil, the grey rain-curtain turned all to silver glass and was rolled back, and he beheld white shores and beyond them a fair green country under a swift sunrise.

Well, I know Carol already pointed out that Lewis was part Welsh - but both his parents were Welsh, not just one. He happens to be listed on famouswelsh.com.

Culturally, he was Irish as he grew up there - but indeedy, he displays all the definitive literary traits of a Welshman - all the way back to Caesar's account of them. Maybe I'm a little biased though, too. Lewis, after all, is my family name. ;)

Northern Irish people are British. Whether or not you agree with that - and i am not getting into that one :) - that is what they are classed as being.
